Grandparents and Swine Flu

My parents came to town for Halloween weekend. We had so much fun! They almost had to cancel their flight though. Addie had a 104 degree fever and a runny nose the night before they were supposed to come. When I called the doctor, they were positive it was swine flu. We were all a little nervous about that. I took her in and they tested her and shockingly it came back negative, so it was some other nasty virus. We were relieved and excited that Grandpa and Grandma could still come! (We have since stood in line for 2 1/2 hours to get the vaccine and although it was not a fun time, we are so glad we don't have to worry about it anymore).

On to the fun stuff. The first day they were here, Addie was still recouping a little so we took it easy and visited the Time Machine of Miniatures museum. If you live here and you haven't been to it, you must go. It is such a fun place. They have a huge display of miniatures and highlight famous miniature makers. The detail they put into the miniature houses and artifacts is amazing. Addie and my favorite is their Christmas village collection. Part of it is under glass in the floor and it is magical. I want it all to decorate my house for Christmas. I know that this picture isn't great, but it shows the floor with the Christmas village inside.
Later that night was our ward's Halloween Chili cook off, carnival, and trunk-or-treat. It was a lot of fun, but way too long for even my attention span.

Face/hand painting at the carnival. I was sad it was cold that night, she had to wear a coat over her Princess costume.

The next day we went up the canyon hoping to see some fall colors, but apparently even in the canyon they don't change until Thanksgiving. That night was Halloween. After my parents took us out for Mexican food, we took Addie trick-or-treating in the gated neighborhood behind our place. She loved it. After every house she would say, "Can I go to the next house?" anticipating that eventually we would make her stop. She went way further than I thought she would...what a little candy will do for motivation!

Their visit ended with a relaxing Sunday. It had warmed back up so we grilled and ate on the back porch. It was delightful. We wish they could have stayed longer! We miss them already.

We miss being there already too. Thanks again for a great visit! Doesn't it take 2 weeks for the immunity to build up after your swine flu vaccination? Be careful for yet a little while.
