Ok I was going to stay away from the Twilight series because everyone loves them so much (and I was trying not to follow the crowd) and mostly I just knew they would be addicting and take over my life. But I was out of things to read so I gave in. A week and three books later, I am feeling very confused by everyone's obsession with Edward Cullen. Someone please help me out here! I think that he is a very under developed, one-sided character. He doesn't seem to have any depth or personality. Does Bella love him just because he is beautiful? When did they fall in love? Did I miss that part of the book? It seems like one minute he wanted to drink her blood and then next they were madly in love with each other. Does he love her because her blood smells good? I just don't get it! If you have any insights I would love for you to comment and tell me them.

Maurine, I am already up way too late, but I saw this and wanted to comment. First let me say that I loved the books. I realize it was a "cheap" read, but I enjoyed it none the less. I don't understand the relationship. I am all for Jacob. I think their friendship is way more developed and more sincere than what she has with Edward. I am hoping in the next book that she realizes what she would be giving up with Edward. I am glad you gave in and read them.
Bella is intrigued with the beauty of the vampires and Edward is sparkly and really strong and saves her life and he runs really fast and gives her piggy backs as he runs... whats not to love :)Edward loves Bella because once he smelled her he just knew he wanted to be by that smell. They really are cheesy books but that is what makes them so addicting, its not that they are so well written, its just that throughout the book there are many things that don't make sense so you have to keep reading to find out what happens. And each book ends and leaves you hanging, so you have to read the next. I also love Jacob more than Edward so I hope Edward dumps Bella so she can be with Jacob and have a family and a semi normal life.
Also Bella is different from anyone Edward has met because for some strange reason he can't read her mind, so that makes her so mysterious and he wants to know whats in her head and why can't he read it... She could have a very special vampire power.
Yes I like that idea Linds, maybe Edward really likes the silence and intrigue of not being able to read her mind. I am also hoping that she will pick Jacob in the next book I am glad others are thinking the same thing.
All I have to say is "Amen." I don't get it either. I agree that Edward just likes her because she smells good. If this is what true love is based on, then I am sorely tempted to leave my husband for freshly baked bread.
I'm the same way. I don't get why people are obsessed with these books. I mean don't get me wrong i read through them pretty fast, but the whole time I was like, "this a book about high school love with vampires!!" Not the best writing either I agree, but man she got lucky that people were all about her vampire idea.
Alright, I'm the wrong person for an opinion, b/c I think I might be the only person who didn't like these books...I can tell you that Forks is not too far from where we lived in Washington and yuck!
i didn't like the books either! i'm so happy when i find other people who weren't in love with them either.
